Dismantling Racism Celebration
In early December, the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri hosted a wonderful celebration to recognize the organizations and individuals in the St. Louis community doing work around dismantling racism. The celebration, attended by over 60 people, included small group discussions on the current status of race relations and what we would like the future to look like. The Diversity Awareness Partnership was a key player in organizing the celebration along with Focus St. Louis, NCCJSTL, YWCA, The Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy, the Interfaith Partnership/Faith Beyond Walls, and Churches United in Christ. We thank the Episcopal Diocese for providing the opportunity to come together to dialogue and continue the important and necessary conversations around racism in our community.
Contributing to DAP
The Diversity Awareness Partnership launched its very first Capacity Building Campaign in November 2007. In the new year, we plan to expand our programs and implement new ones that increase conversations and actions around promoting diversity in the region. Please consider supporting the DAP by making your 2008 gift payable to the Diversity Awareness Partnership and mailing it to 815 Olive Street, Suite 25, St. Louis, MO 63101. For your convenience, we are also able to take on-line payments through our website at www.dapstl.org. Show your support by being a part of our capacity building. Any gift is greatly appreciated!
DAP Welcomes New Staff and Interns
DAP has been fortunate to have a new Program Assistant and two new interns. Emily Task joins the DAP as the new Program Assistant. Emily’s creative thinking has lead to the development of the new Diversity Arts Education Program that will launch in August 08’. Charlene Carruthers and Evan Krauss are DAP’s new interns from Washington University’s Brown School of Social Work. They both bring a fresh perspective, critical thinking skills, and a great attitude!
Affirmative Action Efforts in Missouri – How could this affect you?
California businessman Ward Connerly is organizing efforts to ban affirmative action in five states including Missouri, halting efforts for equality for women, African-Americans, Latinos, New Americans and other ethnic minorities in Missouri. His deceptively-named “Missouri Civil Rights Initiative” could confuse Missouri voters into passing an amendment to Missouri’s Constitution that would tie our hands on countless efforts to build more dynamic and diverse classrooms, congregations, workplaces and communities. Please become informed about this initiative before election day. For more information, please contact Brandon Davis at bdavis@seiumo.org
